Curator, writer, researcher

Over the last twenty years, the curatorial work of Bettina Pelz is dedicated to art-in-context projects. Her transdisciplinary projects are hosted at art institutions and in public space, in postindustrial environments and cultural heritage environments. She has been internationally involved in projects in Africa, Asia, in Europe as well as in North and South America.

Since 2000, the focus of her curatorial research and practice is on light and media in fine arts. She has been the founding curator of several sustainable light and media art projects in Europe and Africa, among them LICHTROUTEN Luedenscheid.de since 2002, GLOW Eindhoven.nl from 2006 to 2009, NARRACJE Gdansk.pl from 2009 to 2011, LICHTUNGEN Hildesheim.de from 2015 to 2018, INTERFERENCE Tunis.tn since 2016, SEE DJERBA Houmt Souk.tn since 2017, RESPONSIVE Halifax.ca in 2017 and COLLUMINA Cologne.de in 2018.

As an academic teacher, she is based at the University of Arts in Bremen since 2004 with focus on professionalizing of the arts. Since 2010, she has been lecturing at academies and universities throughout Europe on light in fine arts. From 2015 to 2017, she was visiting professor at the University of Fine Arts Saarbrucken.de. From 2019 to 2020, she is directing the international study program “TASAWAR Curatorial Studios” hosted by the Goethe-Institute in Tunis.
